FIVB Annual Long List FAQ

What is the “Annual Long List”?

The Annual Long List is the complete list of all players, Men and Women, Senior and Under Age, who may be selected for national team competitions during the given national team season.

If a player is not on the Long List, he/she cannot participate in FIVB events and the 2026 Continental Championships.

To which competitions does the Long List apply? Is it mandatory?

Yes, Long List is mandatory and applies to all FIVB events (Senior and Age Group) and 2026 Senior Continental Championships.

Does this apply to youth categories?

Yes, but only applies to FIVB Age Group Championships (e.g. FIVB U17 WCHs)

Example: If a player might play U-17 this summer → include them now

How many players can we include?

Unlimited number of players

Recommendation: including all players potential for selection to any of the national teams’ lists

Example: If 40 players could be selected during the season → include all 40.

Where do we create the Long List?

The Long List will be created and managed in the VIS system.

A detailed procedure will be shared shortly.

In the meantime:

  • Prepare your list

  • Create VIS profiles for players not yet registered

  • Complete the Players’ profiles by uploading their passport or National ID and photo

What is the deadline (12 April)?

12 April = Long List submission deadline

By this date, you must:

  • Enter all players in VIS

  • Ensure each player is included in the Long List and all required documents are submitted in VIS

What documents are required by 12 April Deadline?

  • Passport or National ID

  • Player’s photo

Not required for Long List submission, but required to be submitted by the O-2 deadline prior to the respective event:

  • FIVB E-Learning Courses Certificates (Anti-Doping, PCMC, Safeguarding)

  • Medical certificates (M-3)

  • Code of Conduct, Annex 1: Consent to the processing of personal data in context with the anti-doping control process, Annex 2: Consent to the processing of medical data for scientific

Do athletes need to complete the mandatory courses before April 12?

No, completing the courses is not required before 12 April. However, the courses are mandatory by the O-2 deadline for each competition.

It is recommended that players complete these online courses as soon as possible.

Does the Player’s acknowledgement need to be made before the April 12 deadline?

When players are added to the Long List, they receive a notification from VIS. The acknowledgement is automatic. If a player does not agree to be included in the Long List, he/she may request a release at any time to be available for club activities during the National Team Season.

What if a player does not yet have a passport?

You should still include the player in the Long List

  • Use National ID (if applicable)

  • Update passport details later

What is the O-2 list?

The O-2 list is the extended players’ list for a specific event, while the Annual Long List is a players’ list for all FIVB & 2026 Continental Championships events (same principle as for the NOC Long List for the Olympic Games).

The O-2 list is submitted closer to a competition (according to the timelines set for each respective event).

Example: O-2 consists of :

Up to 30 players for the VNL / up to 25 players for the FIVB Senior & Age Group World Championships.

Important: Players must already be on the Long List

Can we add players after 12 April?

Yes, you can add up to 6 players per gender to the Long List during the National Team Season.

Example: 6 men and 6 women in total, regardless of the age category. This does not mean 6 for senior events and 6 for age group events, split by gender.

Can players be included to the Long List if they are still in club during the National League Season?

Yes.

Can players be eligible to play for clubs if they are selected on the Long List?

The Long List does not affect club commitments during the National League/ Club Season.

Players included in the Long List cannot play club competitions during the National Team Season.

What are the dates of the National Team Season and the National League Season?

Please refer to the FIVB Volleyball Calendar, available herearrow-up-right

Is it possible to release players from the Long List?

Yes, at any time.

Once the player is released from the Long List, he/she becomes eligible to play in club competitions during the National Team Season - but they cannot be returned to the Long List for the rest of the National Team Season in that year.

Is it mandatory to specify the Player’s category when they are included in the Long List?

No. The Long List includes all the players, regardless of their gender or age category.

However, you can:

  • select the player’s age category at any time.

  • select multiple age categories for the same player (senior and under-age)

Practical example

A National Federation plans:

  • 46 players for senior events

  • 50 players for age group events (e.g. U-17 World Championship in 2026)

Long List = 96 players

Later:

  • NF selects an extended list of players for a respective event (O-2 Form) from the players previously registered on the Long List

  • O-2bis still consists of 12-14 players (depending on the event’s competition regulations) selected from the players previously registered on the O-2 Form for this event.

Do we need to include coaches and officials to the Long List?

The Long List should include players only. Team officials must be registered only on the O-2 Form for the respective event.
